Leading in Times of Significant Change By Dr. Greg Wiens As I have talked with pastors over
the past ten years, it seems that many feel challenged as they strive to lead
a healthy growing church in these times of chaotic change. They feel as
if someone has changed the rules, or at least the expectations for
pastoring. Many people in the pews feel this same sensation. For
years, those in the congregation knew what to expect of their pastor: á He/she would
preach a message to them that would teach them the scriptures. á He/she would sit
on boards and observe, but let the lay leaders make the important
"business" decisions and would only speak up on "spiritual"
issues. á He/she would
visit them in their homes every once in awhile to see how they are doing. á He/she would be
there to console them and nurture them through the pain if a crisis happened
(so he/she spent a good share of time at the hospital). I grew up under these kinds of
pastors and expectations. I knew I would never fit into that kind
of a mold. In fact, when I told my parents I was leaving General Motors
to go to seminary, my own mother told me I couldn't be a pastor, because I didn't
love people! When you own momma tells you that, you need to
listen. What she meant was that I would not be able to love people like
the pastors she had known. To

FCOG,
Panama City's celebrates 62nd Anniversary! September
20th, 2009 The First
church of God in Panama City Fl. will be celebrating it's 62nd anniversary on
Sunday, September 20,2009. Do you
want to know a little bit of our history? On September 22,1947 Brother W.O. Moon, L. S. Mowery, and J.W.
Lorton installed Walter Kufeldt as pastor of our church. Some of the founding members were W.L.Pridgen, W.T, Pridgen,
Clayton Raffield, and Marion Pitts. Services were held in Bay Harbor for two years. In 1950, work
began for a new building at 1503 E. Business Hwy 98. On November 25,1951 this building was dedicated with Walter
Kufeldt as pastor. On February 15,1976 groundbreaking ceremonies were held
for the remodeling and expansion of our present facility under the
supervision of George Pridgen and Jerry Pridgen. On September 25,1977 we held a building dedication of our
expanded and remodeled building along with our 30th anniversary with Roy
Ratcliff as pastor. We are now
in the process of doing more upgrades to our present facilities. Please
pray that God will bless and give us continued growth in the Panama City
area. We would
like to thank each pastor that has been a part of spreading the gospel in the
