Lessons From Starbucks By Dr. Greg Wiens On Father's Day, I received a Starbucks gift card from
my sister-in-law. I can tell she knows me well and has studied my
habits! This morning, when I went to buy a "Grande, no water, no
foam, Soy Chai, 165 degrees", I realized why I enjoy the Starbucks
experience (as do millions of others around the world). I walked into
my favorite Starbucks and, as I began to say my order, the barista said,
"Hi there, I know what you want." They know exactly what I
like! In fact, they have a card with my name on it and my favorite
order written on it, in case there is a new barista who doesn't know me. As I waited for the familiar faces behind the steaming
black machines to bring forth my favorite froth, I realized I feel special
here. They demonstrate they value me as an individual. When I
come in, they truly know my face, name and my unique tastes. I also nod
to Jay (a chef), sitting in his usual chair in the corner reading his
newspaper. I see him there quite often and he and I know each other. We
each make it a point to welcome the other. We also have a mutual friend

CONVERSATION: PRACTICAL HANDLES IN EQ (EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE)
DEVELOPMENT" WITH THE HGC TEAM: GREG WIENS, MAX STROTHER, KEN LOVE &
SUSAN HOAK CONFERENCE CALL: AUGUST
4TH, 2009 AT 11:00 A.M.(EST) COACHING IS AS CLOSE AS THE PHONE This one hour conference call will focus on practical
handles in developing EQ. EQ unlike IQ can develop and grow.
Additionally, EQ is said to be an important indicator of successful
leadership. EQ is best developed in the context of trust and
transparent relationships. The call will center around the "how
questions" of EQ such as: á How do I know my EQ? á How do I read emotions in myself or
others? á How do we lead our staff in EQ
development? á How do we build trust so we can work
on EQ? á How do I manage emotions not control
them? á How do I leverage EQ in relationship
management? á How do I process EQ with my spouse? á How do I know what I am feeling? The first step in EQ development is to know what your EQ
is. If you desire to take the HGC online tool for EQ, we are making it
available to those on the previous call for $10 each. If you have staff members who were not on the
call or someone you think would benefit from our follow-up call, they too can
access the online tool for $15 each.
This call is free to covenant churches or if you were on the
previous call. Otherwise, this call costs $10. We would like to integrate your questions for the

Intercessory Prayer A group gathers weekly on Mondays @ the FLCOG Ministries
Resource Center for a time of prayer for our pastors and churches. If you
