Learning Leadership Skills By Dr. Greg Wiens It seems
to me that leading people would be so much more fun if they would simply
behave themselves. I can't tell you how many times I have had a pastor tell
me that ministry wouldn't be bad if it weren't for the people! One of
the lessons I have learned through the years is that often God is working in
me through the people problems I face. I have a
friend who often asks me, "So what is God teaching you through this
trial?" I sometimes want to say that God is teaching me that
people are just dumb, but I know that isn't what my friend is asking...he is
asking me what in my life is God dealing with through this challenging
situation. It is very
easy to see problem people or people problems as intrusions on the work that
we are called to do. Let me suggest that it is precisely through these
problems God is doing what God is called to do. God is committed to
make us the kind of leaders that can lead his people to fulfill his
mission. All too often, the way God makes us into Godly leaders is by
taking us through times with ungodly people. We only need to look to
Jesus or Moses to see examples of this. To read the rest of the

Florida's State Youth Convention Update We are 20
days away from the 2009 Florida Church of God State Youth
Convention!! It is going to be a great and life-changing experience for all who attend.
Many local church youth groups have already registered! There is still time if your youth group has
not yet registered. Pastor, please forward this update information to your youth leader and encourage them to
act immediately!!! We're expecting 900-1000 students and leaders - make sure your group doesn't miss this important youth
event on the weekend of November 20-22, 2009, at the Wyndham Orlando Resort, Orlando, FL. For more information go to the Florida Church of God Youth
Ministry website - www.floridayouth.net. A full packet of registration information is available for
download under the "2009 SYC Info" tab. The following Youth Conferences were developed by 2009 SYC
team members: Bill Collins (White Chapel - Daytona) and Jeffrey Compere (15th Ave. - Ft.
Lauderdale). Thanks guys!!! They have done a great job of identifying conference leaders and conferences that will
harmonize with the service themes related to developing passion, balance and surrender in the Christian
life of students. Each conference will be age- level-specific this year. Conference descriptions will
be available in November on the youth ministry website for further clarification of each conference.
New this year - All conferences will be digitally recorded (audio) and available on the youth ministry website after the
convention for use in ministry and by students. Here is a list of Saturday morning conferences
