A few weeks ago, Dr. Wiens wrote an article asking the question, “Where are you unusually gifted?” In that article, he posed that many of us like to think it is in two areas; leading through vision casting and the ability to craft and deliver compelling sermons.
I have spent some time looking at the “sermons” or teachings of Christ. Obviously, one of Jesus’ greatest strengths was his ability to proclaim the truth of God. John 7 is only one of a number of times that, upon hearing Christ speak, the listeners were greatly impacted – with a multitude of responses.
So, what are the elements of truly great preaching? Since proclamation is so central to ministry, how do we strengthen that gift for greatest effectiveness? Even if preaching isn’t our strongest gift, how do we intentionally ensure that it is as impactful as we can make it?
